Steven Cost-Chretien is a psychotherapist and the founder of Sydney City Couples Counselling Clinic. He holds a Master of Counselling from Excelsia College in Sydney and a Certificate of Policing from Sturt University. He has completed specialised training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples under the guidance of Dr Jenny Fitzgerald.

Steven became passionate about working with relationships through his own long journey in becoming a couples counsellor. He sees the importance of strong bonds with those around us as essential for having a meaningful and fulfilling life. He places great importance on relationships in his own life and aspires to help others create safe and mutually-satisfying connections.

He is dedicated to supporting individuals and couples in enhancing their relationships and achieving greater fulfilment in their lives. Steven is committed to helping his clients cultivate safe, supportive, and mutually satisfying relationships.

Apart from his work with couples, Steven has a keen interest in working with individuals and is adept at using a range of therapeutic modalities. These include Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Person Centred Therapy, Gestalt Therapy and Walk ‘n’ Talk Therapy. He firmly believes that non-judgmental and empathic counselling can be a potent tool in exploring new possibilities in a safe, supportive environment.

Steven’s expertise in helping individuals extends far beyond his private practice in Couples Counselling. In addition to his academic background in human psychology, he has gained valuable insights into societal dynamics through his immersion in a variety of professions, cultures, and countries. Despite being based in Sydney, he has lived for extended periods in Canada, Europe, and Asia. He spent over two decades working in the corporate sector before venturing on his next life chapter as a New South Wales police officer. During this time, he served as a police liaison officer, working alongside the inner city community implementing safety-based policing strategies.

Currently, he is involved in front-line covert operations that rescue children from sex trafficking and exploitation in Southeast Asia.

Steven was employed by Lifeline Australia for 8 years where he played a crucial role in suicide prevention.
